Why I Prioritize Exercise

In a world filled with stress and uncertainty, I was asked recently, how do you handle it all?

For me, I prioritize exercise.

As a lifelong athlete, physical exercise is something I just do. It’s a way of life.

Right now it’s more important than ever to stay healthy and my workouts keep me at the top of my game. It’s no secret that daily exercise can reduce stress, improve cardiovascular health, and elevate your mood. These are benefits to be had by anyone who puts in the time, effort, and commitment.

During the last two years I settled in on the basics:

1. Walking. Every day, I walk at least 30 to 60 minutes. I take and return calls, listen to a podcast or simply enjoy my surroundings while listening to the birds sing. But it’s about consistency. I put my shoes on and head outside, day in and day out. It’s non-negotiable, no excuses.

2. Strength Training. I do some form of strength training about five days a week. No gym, but rather simple things. It’s a lot of pushups, squats, bicep curls, triceps and shoulder raises. My equipment consists of a kettlebell and some weighted hoses but the premise is simple – strength training builds muscle which makes you stronger.

When I want to mix it up, I’ll do some boxing, cycling, and swimming.

Essentially, I make sure I’m moving my body and working muscles daily.

By focusing on my fitness, I feel better than ever. The stress and uncertainty I do experience doesn’t overwhelm me. In fact, I’m ready to crush it. The boost and motivation I get from my fitness routine allows me to get more done daily and drives me toward my goals.

All by keeping it simple and keep moving.
